Welcome to PIRC — Instructor Rating Theory

Build your understanding of how people learn, how instructors teach and how Australian instructor privileges apply. Work through the lessons, test your reasoning and use feedback to target your revision.

The real examination

  • Time: 2 hours.
  • Pass mark: 75% of available marks.
  • Syllabus: Part 61 MOS Schedule 3, Unit 2.4.1.

Have these study references ready

  • FAA Aviation Instructor’s Handbook, FAA-H-8083-9B.
  • Part 61 MOS Schedule 3 and current CASR Part 61.
  • Current CASR Parts 141 and 142 for operator requirements.
  • Your own revision notes and a reliable internet connection.

The handbook supports learning and teaching theory. Australian legislation takes precedence over US regulatory material. Study materials are not automatically permitted in the examination room.

Before booking

Check licence eligibility, permitted materials and booking instructions on CASA’s PIRC examination page. CASA warns that its Part 61 guides may contain outdated information.

How to study

Read the explanation, work through each scenario, then attempt the lesson check. Review the reasoning even when you answer correctly. After completing the topics, use the timed papers: 50 questions, 120 minutes and a 75% practice pass mark. Fixed papers share some questions; the fresh-draw paper varies its selection.

This independent AussiePilotExams.com course uses original practice questions. It is not CASA-endorsed and does not grant an instructor rating or training endorsement.
