CSYA – CPL(A) Aircraft General Knowledge (Aeroplane) examination

Time permitted 1 hour 30 minute. Pass mark, not less than 70%

Aspeq Invigilation fee $89.70 + CASA fee $65 = $154.70

Permitted material required to be supplied by the candidate:

A candidate may use either the Airservices ListOR the Jeppesen List of permitted materials ONLY. All other combinations of materials are NOT permitted.

Permitted material to be provided by the Invigilator with the examination, which must be returned on completion of examination:

Pen, pencil, ruler, eraser and scribble pad only.

Exam time

The CASA allocated time for CSYA and CSYH is 90 minutes. The average time taken for candidates to complete the exam has been 56 minutes for CSYA and 57 minutes for CSYH. CASA assessed the allocated time for each exam is more than adequate. CASA may increase the number of questions without increasing the time.

Pass percentage and pass rate

The percentage score required for a pass is 70%.

  • Recognition of different fuels
  • Fire warning and extinguishing systems
  • Correct use of carburettor heat
  • Turbo-chargers and associated engine handling
  • Understanding of magneto operation
  • Correct understanding of vibration either in the main rotor or tail rotor – Helicopter only
